Release Date Update for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”

We previously posted that TMNT would hit theaters in June 2014, but Deadline has learned that the movie will now be released on August 8, 2014.

According to the article, the change in dates has to do with the merchandising and release of another Paramount blockbuster, ‘Transformers,’  being released in June 2014.  Hopefully this also means that the the Turtles will have a presence at next year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

It’s because Paramount has its Transformers movie slated for June 27. That will likely move to June 25 as traditionally the studio has opened these Michael Bay films on the Wednesday of that week. Both of these have involved campaigns and a big merchandising component, and it was thought the studio would be better off spacing the two toy-tied films further apart than the 19 days it was looking at in the original scheduling configuration.

We will have to wait a little longer to see Noel’s nunchuking skills, but I am sure it will be worth the wait! COWABUNGA!

UPDATE:  According to Den of Geek, the TMNT will hit theaters in the UK on October 17th, 2014.  We’ll update with more information as the date draws nearer.
